ABOUT US

Riyadh Wheelers has existed since 1992, promoting cycling as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. We have had members from 60 different countries, male and female, participate in our events. We are an open and inclusive group, with a shared love of road racing.

Through our racing events, we allow cyclists to improve their fitness, their skills and their social contacts. We have had ex-professional and national representative riders join our ranks and share their knowledge and experience. However, we offer racing opportunities to everyone who wants to try and challenge themselves.

You can find out more about who we are here.

We organize a Race Championship made up of 14 races in a season that runs from September through to March. We offer a variety of different courses and road racing disciplines, from time trials to road races, on flat and hilly courses.

We use chipped live timing systems for accurate race results, which are available online as soon as the race is completed. In the Championship, we have categories for male and female racers and age groupings, with podium presentations and prizes available.

New for the 2022-23 season, we are also introducing B-races for riders who are getting started in the sport, returning from injury, or who are simply prefer to avoid the toughest level of competition. B-Races will start a few minutes after the Championship race and will usually be 60-75% of the Championship race distance. B-Races offer a more accessible level of competition.

WHO WE ARE

Riyadh Wheelers is a voluntary community of riders that first formed in the early 1990s when it became clear that runners wanted to do more specific bike training, in order to have a go at triathlons. You can find out more about the history of the club here.

Originally the club was made up of foreigners. People would come and go with their jobs, living in different places around the city. This has always meant that group training rides were formed around smaller groups of friends. It did leave space for a competition to be created, so riders could come together on a regular basis and test themselves against others.

As cycling has grown in the Kingdom, Saudi nationals make up about half of the riders at Riyadh Wheelers events. We try to communicate as much in Arabic as we do in English (and many other languages are spoken amongst friends).

The Organizing Committee is made up of 9 members, we have several supporting volunteers from our community and we have paid marshalls at all our races. We are always looking for more help to be better organized and increase the range of activities we do. If you think you could help, get in touch with us here.

Riyadh Wheelers does not make a profit but only takes enough money each season from race day and membership fees, to be able to cover the costs of what we do. We are very happy to receive sponsorship from businesses that help us subsidise those race and club kit fees, as well as providing prizes for Championship racers throughout the season.

WELCOME FROM THE CLUB PRESIDENT

ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

Putting on a safe and enjoyable event takes a good amount of effort and planning behind the scenes. Members of the organizing committee are not paid for their work, but are motivated to see people enjoying this beautiful sport.

If you like things that happen at our events, feel free to say some encouraging words to the organizers, but even better, tell your cycling friends about us. If there are things you don’t like so much, or concern you, please speak to a committee member about them first. Maybe something happens in a certain way for a good reason and we can help to explain that.

We are always concerned to improve the racing experiences. If you have ideas about that, please write to: president@riyadhwheelers.com
